Cordon Rouge

The man who would eventually give his initials to the House is also the man to whom we owe its iconic cuvée. As a winemaker, Georges Hermann Mumm was driven by a single motto: "only the best". In 1876, in tribute to the wine on which the reputation of the House is founded, he decided to ornament the bottle with a red silk ribbon, a symbol of the highest of French honours, the Ordre Royal et Militaire de Saint Louis then the Grand Cordon de la Légion d'Honneur. As the Champagne des Souverains, so great was the fame of the Cordon Rouge wine that it became the symbol of the House and of champagne as a whole. The wine lovers of today continue to worship G.H.MUMM Cordon Rouge and have made the cuvée France's premier and one of the world's favourite champagnes.
